Dutch nightclub using energy from dancers to power lights Watch video now Pedal Desk Watch video now

Did you know, if you are a fidgeter you can burn the same amount of energy as running 30 kilometres?

Imagine if you could harness the energy of our movement...

This short video looks at places that are already using human energy rather than burning fossil fuels.

Do you like that idea?

How about if we all used pedal powered desks at school? That would certainly make for an interesting classroom!!

Jernhusen: a building heated by people Watch video now

The building heated by people

How hot are you? Everybody has a body heat of 37 degrees, which means everybody is a heater. When people are crammed together in small spaces they create excess body heat.

A Swedish company has found a way to create usable energy from the body heat of 250,000 commuters who pass through Stockholm Central Station each day.

Here's how it works, according to a  BBC article: Heat exchangers in the Central Station's ventilation system convert the excess body heat into hot water. That is then pumped to the heating system in the nearby building to keep it warm. In practice, the system lowers the energy costs of the building by 25%.
